Kata F1s review and 1st hand experiences

Whoa!! Kata Digital launches today via online sales the newest member of their family the new and improved KATA F1s..

For those that havent seen it… here’s a quick rundown of its specifications…

Here’s the specifications list.

  • 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTEk MTK6582M processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 4.5-inch qHD display, 540 x 960 resolution
  • 8GB of storage expandable via microSD up to 32GB
  • 8-megapixel rear camera with flash and AF
  • 5-megapixel front camera
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS
  • Dual SIM
  • 3G
  • Android 4.4.2 KitKat
  • 1550mAh battery
  • 2 point touch display

Okay – let’s tackle the battery issue first, since most people complain about battery life.. based on what I experience here is what will happen with you phone based on how you use it… Well, Great News – all Kata F1s Buyers will also get an extra spare battery!

1. Simple calls and texts.. No wifi or data surfing… – the Kata F1s will last you about 2 day…. or to be more exact around 35 hrs….

2. Call and texts with wifi on and connected with moderate use of facebook ( since most people just use their phones for facebook or twitter or instagram..) The F1s will last you about 12 hours…

3. Using your phone with a data plan on – since you can now use Free Facebook via Globe ( and yes, you need toturn on your data… read here how it will cost you if you do that)

4. If you use the Kata F1s for gaming non stop with a data or wifi connection…. 1 – 1 and 1/2  hrs.  no data or wifi 2-3 hours.

Well, what can we assume from these data? You will most likely need to recharge your phone or bring a powerbank or extra battery to last the day.

Now to the actual performance of the phone,.. based on Antutu test results.. the F1s actually scores fairly in the range of 17900 to 18900.. which if more than decent enough for a 4,499 php phone.

Camera is at 8 MP back and 5 MP front.

Here is a sample of the video recording of the Kata F1s Back Camera.

The video of the drone was taken in La Salle on a Cloudy, Rainy morning.. Here’s a video taken indoors at The Peninsula Manila… during a performance of  THE COMPANY..

Now here are some random pictures taken using the back camera..

So far, the 8 MP back camera works great.. now dont compare it to the other phones with 13 mp cameras..

The back camera has 2 options for the burst shots –  40 and 20 shots… the KATA F1s takes 40 burst shots from the camera in 7.5 seconds – cool right? The front cam is set for a defualt shot of 40 shots…

Now based on gaming performance.. I installed and played a couple games like car racing, online games, and others.. so far no lag or problems in the phone hanging or freezing up..

Just a quick reminder to everyone – Kitkat 4.4 phones out of the box like this cannot use OTG .. that means you cant plug in your usb via a cable unless you actually prep it for that (read the forums how to do it..)

The increased performance of the Kata F1s against its predecessor is clearly evident based on the specs that was provided..

From a 1.2GHz Dual Core MTK 6572 processor, the F1S now sports a MTK6582M Quad Core 1.3GHz – so besides from upping the type of processor used, the F1S now has twice the processors as its predecessor.

Frequency of the phone has been increased from using 2G technology to Tri-Band 3G 850/1900/2100.

Another significant difference is the RAM and the ROM… from 512 to 1 gig ram, and  from 4 gig internal memory to 8gig internal memory.

The body design is still the same as the earlier version as I can see it…

The buttons for the volume up and down is still located at the left side.. with the 3.5 mm jack for the headset on the left top and the charging/data port on the upper right.. camera flash is located right under the camera which is slightly protruding from the body…

In the bottom right is the slight indentation for you to be able to open the back cover which will show the dual sim port, microsd card port and the removable battery,  on the lower right back portion is the loudspeaker for the phone.

Available colors are Black, White and Yellow.. All Kata F1s phones come with a free 10 gb Kata cloud storage which you can use to save your pictures and everything else to save memory space in the phone.

All in all, the Kata F1s phone is a great phone for newbies in the Android segment or for those that are not heavy users for mobile computing…

My suggestion is to keep a powerbank or extra battery handy.. but overall its a great phone!
