You may have heard about the deal worth 900 million dollar buyout of Viber by Internet Japan giant RAKUTEN a couple of days ago. Well, thats essentially true. The combination of the 2 companies should significantly help each other grow in their portfolios.
Last year, we were lucky enough to meet VIBER CEO Talmon Marco when they introduced the 4.1 version of Viber.
Well, we were able to ask for an official statement from one of their representatives in the Philippines. See Below:
“Rakuten is one of the world’s most important Internet companies. It is truly dominant in its home market of Japan and has been rapidly expanding globally. This combination presents an amazing opportunity for Viber to enhance our rapid user growth in both existing and new markets. Sharing similar aspirations with Rakuten, our vision is to be the world’s No.1 communications platform and our combination with Rakuten is an important step in that direction.”- Talmon Marco, Viber CEO.
As far as we know VIBER will still maintain its brand culture and independence as a company part of the Rakuten Group.
Well, thats good news for the loyal fans of Viber. So now lets just wait and see and continue using our viber.
