SMS and Text Scams, beware!

Scams and Scammers have been around since civilization began. There is a saying in Tagalog, Walang Manloloko, kung walang nagpapaloko.

There has been a lot of variations of SMS and Text scams.

Here’s one of the latest that I got just yesterday. The texter poses as a representative from one of the Telco’s

At 1st glance, you would most likely be convinced that the text is authentic. ( especially if you are a real loyal user. )

But remember a couple of things.

Telcos never text subscribers using a normal mobile number. They always use the 3 – 6 digit numbers they have like 200.

2ndly, look at the message they want you to send.

TXT 500 to a mobile number starting with a 2. For Globe Telecoms subscribers, when you send a text with 2 starting at the number of the recipient that understood by the system that you are sending load. So dont be surprised if you in your next billing a 500 php charge.

For SMART subscribers , it would be harder to fake it since the PASA Load needs to be sent to 808. See how to pasa load below with Smart.

Smart Pasaload is really simple to do. As long as you have a smart Buddy SIM and you can pass your load to any other Smart Buddy SIM. There will be a charge of P1.00 to the sender for each pasaload regardless of denomination.

Key in [cel number][space][amount] then send to 808
Ex. 09181234567 100
09181234567 200

Other Text or SMS scams are the following: your mobile number won in an electronic raffle, hi musta na kayo dyan, this is my new roaming number.

So please be careful.
